Letter From the President

Friends and Associates,

Welcome to Delaplaine Foundation, Inc. online.  As a private family foundation firmly rooted in Frederick, MD, our strategic focus is driven by our commitment to make a positive and lasting difference in Frederick County and City where we are based, and in other areas we are able to impact through grant funding that aligns with our mission. We carry out that mission by forging synergistic relationships with dedicated nonprofit partner organizations whose goals are closely aligned with our own . . . to enrich families and communities, and quality of life for all.

As we continue to look forward, we acknowledge the best of our past. In the tradition of the exemplary generosity of founding Chairman George B. Delaplaine, Jr., Delaplaine Foundation builds upon the community investment that has been synonymous with the Delaplaine name. Since our inception in 2001, the Foundation has deepened it strategic focus through grant funding support of the arts and culture, education, health, human services, historic preservation and spiritual enlightenment. We believe the best solutions come from within the community itself, working with our dedicated nonprofit partners who know and understand best the challenges of the diverse communities we serve.  Our goal is to foster empowerment through partnerships that help identify and implement innovation solutions, bridging challenges to effective change, and cultivate relationships that collaborate and build trust.

In examining our stewardship, we measure our return on investment in terms of the results, outcomes and impact we are able to achieve through grant funding. We acknowledge the ever-evolving needs of diverse communities and seek to transform problems into opportunities to foster long-term impact by providing resources that empower nonprofits to address root causes of community challenges and develop innovative solutions. We firmly believe that community collaboration amplifies outcomes and increases collective impact.

I’m filled with optimism as I reflect on what the future holds for Delaplaine Foundation and the communities we serve. We remain grounded in the conviction that philanthropy goes far beyond writing a check.  It’s about being keenly connected to community through data, conversations, listening, and collaborating. It’s about driving positive change and strengthening sustainability by investing in the empowerment and potential of people and places while ensuring that opportunities for growth, enrichment and prosperity are accessible to every member of the communities we serve. I invite you to check out the Impact section of our website to view a list of past grantees. Collectively, we are proud to serve as a powerful force for a greater good. It’s a vibrant and ever-evolving story that belongs to all of us!

Yours in giving,

Marlene B. Young, President
